What’s Happening at Birdhouse.Farm This December

December offers the opportunity to look back on a full year, celebrate our accomplishments and thank our members and community that makes it all worthwhile.

Here’s a glimpse of what’s happening this month:

1. Reflecting on Our Farm-to-Table Event Success

We’re still basking in the warmth of October’s Farm-to-Table event! It was a joy to welcome so many of you to Birdhouse.Farm to celebrate Stafford County’s natural heritage, share locally sourced meals, and honor local natural heritage champion Norman Cooper. Thank you to everyone who participated, your support is helping us grow in our mission to connect people, land, and appreciation for our natural places in rural Kansas, especially Stafford County.

2. Preparing Birdhouse for Winter

December is a time to tuck the property in for the colder months. We’re planting garlic, mulching garden beds, and tending to the wetlands to ensure they thrive through the season. These efforts lay the groundwork for a vibrant spring, helping us stay connected to the rhythms of the land.

3. Welcoming Wildlife Visitors

With migration season in full swing, Birdhouse.Farm is hosting some remarkable guests! Sandhill cranes are stopping by the area on their journey south, their graceful forms and haunting calls filling the skies. Native songbirds like juncos and sparrows are making their seasonal appearances too. Keep an eye on our social media for birding tips and updates on what to look for if you visit.

4. Membership Perks and Holiday Planning

Our members are a vital part of Birdhouse.Farm’s story. December is the perfect time to join or renew your membership.   Memberships make wonderful holiday gifts for nature-loving friends and family, as do gift certificates for overnight stays at our BnB!

5. Upcoming Workshops and Programs

We’re excited to announce 2025 workshops. These activities are a wonderful way to connect with nature during the colder months and create something special for your home or garden. Join our newsletter to stay informed.

6. Staying with Us

Whether you’re planning a peaceful retreat or an adventurous nature getaway, Birdhouse.Farm offers unique stays through Hipcamp and Airbnb. December is a serene time to experience the property’s quiet beauty, with opportunities to stargaze, explore, and unwind.

As we reflect on the season of gratitude, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who support Birdhouse.Farm. Whether you visit, volunteer, share our story, or simply cheer us on from afar, you’re part of this growing community.

Here’s to a December filled with connection, coziness, and the quiet magic of fallow time. We hope to see you on the farm soon!

Warm wishes,
The Birdhouse.Farm Team
